Drop Camp Hunts provided by Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters are Do It Yourself Seven day elk hunting trips. You will ride deep into the San Juan Nation Forest on our horses, and dropped off at a wall tent already set up. We provide you with an oversized cot, sleeping pad, cooking utensils, cook stove, propane heater, and a wood stove. You need to bring food, clothes, sleeping bag, some type of water purifying system or tablets, your hunting tag, and a camera to capture one of the best elk hunting experiences Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters has to offer.
This Drop Camp Elk Hunt is $2500 per hunter for 3 or more hunters or $3000 per hunter for 2 hunters.
CECO Semi Guided
Located on approximately 3000 acres of deeded private property, our base camp has a fully furnished cabin with three detached bunk houses. Hunting is also done on other properties that range from 640 to 5000 acres. The cabin contains a big dining room table, hot shower, and is heated with a wood stove. The bunk houses are furnished with twin beds and are heated by propane or wood stove. The bathrooms are two outhouses located approximately 30 yards behind the cabins. Electricity is provided by a generator. All of the food and non alcoholic drinks will be provided for you. Other supplies you will need is bedding (sleeping bag and pillow), toiletries, clothes, and hunting equipment (hunters that are traveling by airplane, we will provided your sleeping bag/pillow).
On this semi guided hunt we will give you a map of the properties, show you the boundaries and the good hunting locations, and give you advise on our experiences from the previous years, we will not go out in the field with you. Hunting will be done on foot, you will be able to park your vehicle or ATV in designated parking areas and hunt from there. If you harvest an animal we will help you get it out. You are able to retrieve your downed game with an ATV, but that is the only time you can drive ATV’s around the ranch. All the meals will be prepared for you by our cooks. When you wake up there will be cereal, oatmeal, fruit, and baked goods for breakfast. There will be a mid day lunch/brunch and then a big dinner.
Can I drive to the camp?
Yes you can drive to the camp in your vehicle, however if the road is muddy it is a 4 wheel drive road. We will meet you in Dolores, Colorado at the Riverside gas station on the designated day and time.
What will the weather be like?
The weather is normally in the mid 60s during the day in the mid 30s at night. However you can check the weather forecast for Rico, Colorado, that is the closest most accurate weather forecast for the area.
What type of broadheads should I use?
We ask that you use fixed blade broadheads, expandable broadheads are not restricted but do not seem to preform as well on Elk.

What license do I need to purchase to hunt in Colorado
You will be hunting unit 71/711, you will need to draw an archery elk tag. 2nd and 3rd rifle season is an OTC rifle bull tag statewide.
Do you guarantee we will kill an elk, deer, or bear?
There is no guarantees in hunting, so we do not guarantee that you will harvest an animal. We do our best to give you an opportunity and put you in places where animals are commonly seen or have been harvested in years prior. There have been many times when hunters have gone home without harvesting an animals and a few that have gone home without even seeing an animal.
Camp 1
Located on approximately 7000 acres of deeded private property, camp one has a fully furnished cabin. The cabin contains eight beds, a big dining room table, hot shower, and is heated with propane. The kitchen has a stove/oven, refrigerator, and all the cooking utensils and supplies needed for your stay. There is a shower with hot water inside of the cabin. The bathroom is an outhouse located approximately 30 yards behind the cabin. Electricity is provided by a generator, which you will have to provide. Other supplies you will need is bedding (sleeping bag and pillow), toiletries, food, paper towels, and toilet paper. There is a barbecue, you will have to bring your own charcoal briquettes.

Bear Creek
This is a Semi-Guided private and public land camp. Hunting will be done on a 4400 acre private ranch as well as the adjoining pieces of Gunnison National Forest land. The terrain in this area is aspen covered mountainsides, oak brush hills, deep rugged canyons, along with thick oak brush flats with great water holes. There is a guide that stays in a camp trailer outside your camp. He will point you in the right direction and make sure you are hunting in a spot that will give you a best chance at filling your tag. He will spread his time out with everyone in camp and help retrieve and take care of downed game.
Accommodations: At this camp hunters will stay in an old rustic cabin equipped with a fully furnished kitchen, generated power, beds, as well as propane heaters and wood stove in case it gets cold out.
You will need your personal items, hunting gear, a sleeping bag, and food for the week. Bring your ATV and a couple stands and ground blinds as well. You will have to follow game retrieval rules on public land.

Archery. You will need a limited draw archery either sex elk tag. The Code to hunt private and public land is E-E-521-O1-A. The code to hunt private land only is E-E-052-P1-A. We will send additional instructions on how to apply.
