Drop Camp Hunts provided by Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters are Do It Yourself Seven day elk hunting trips. You will ride deep into the San Juan Nation Forest on our horses, and dropped off at a wall tent already set up. We provide you with an oversized cot, sleeping pad, cooking utensils, cook stove, propane heater, and a wood stove. You need to bring food, clothes, sleeping bag, some type of water purifying system or tablets, your hunting tag, and a camera to capture one of the best elk hunting experiences Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters has to offer.

This Drop Camp Elk Hunt is $2500 per hunter for 3 or more hunters or $3000 per hunter for 2 hunters.

CECO Guided

Located on approximately 4000 acres of deeded private property, our base camp has a fully furnished cabin with three detached bunk houses. The cabin contains a big dining room table, hot shower, and is heated with a wood stove. The bunk houses are furnished with twin beds and are heated by propane or wood stove. The bathrooms are two outhouses located approximately 30 yards behind the cabins. Electricity is provided by a generator. All of the food and non alcoholic drinks will be provided for you. Other supplies you will need is bedding (sleeping bag and pillow), toiletries, clothes, and hunting equipment (hunters that are traveling by airplane, we will provided your sleeping bag/pillow).

On this two hunters per one guide; guided hunt you will have a guide assigned to you at all times. You will have the rights to hunt approximately 4000 acres of deeded private properties. The guide will be there to assist you with your hunt, spot for you, call for you, and help you retrieve your downed animal. The guide will provide your transportation to and from your hunting area, cabin and or Cortez or Durango CO airports. Hunting will be done on foot, if at all possible your guide will use an ATV to help retrieve the harvested animals that will be the only time ATV’s will be used. All the meals will be prepared for you by our cooks. When you wake up there will be cereal, oatmeal, fruit, and baked goods for breakfast. There will be a mid day lunch/brunch and then a big dinner.

With a rifle you need to be able to comfortably shoot out to 350 yards. With a bow you need to be able to shoot comfortably out to 60 yards.

We ask that you use fixed blade broadheads, expandable broadheads are not restricted but do not seem to preform as well on Elk.

You will be hunting unit 71/711, you will need an elk tag for the season you are hunting.

There is no guarantees in hunting, so we do not guarantee that you will harvest an animal. We do our best to give you an opportunity and put you in places where animals are commonly seen or have been harvested in years prior. There have been many times when hunters have gone home without harvesting an animals and a few that have gone home without even seeing an animal.  

Camp 7

At this camp you will be hunting about 5,000 acres of Private land and some public land close to the state line that separates Colorado from Utah. You might just be lucky enough to have the Bull of a lifetime step across that State line. This camp is also known for great Mule Deer hunting. The Terrain varies from flat agricultural fields to deep canyons. This is a guided hunt, you can count on having one guide for every two hunters. You will be hunting for 5 days.

Elevation: 6,000-8,000 feet

Accommodations: Hunters will be staying in a fully furnished guest home. Electricity, running water, shower, and beds will all be provided. All you will need is your personal items, hunting gear, sleeping bag and your own food for the week. This hunt is a guided hunt with 2 hunters per 1 guide unless otherwise noted.

You will be hunting unit 72 and 711. Elk is draw for archery. OTC for 2nd and 3rd Rifle season. Muzzle Loader, 1st rifle and 4th rifle are draw only. All Mule Deer licenses are Draw only unless a voucher is purchased from a landowner.
