Drop Camp Hunts provided by Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters are Do It Yourself Seven day elk hunting trips. You will ride deep into the San Juan Nation Forest on our horses, and dropped off at a wall tent already set up. We provide you with an oversized cot, sleeping pad, cooking utensils, cook stove, propane heater, and a wood stove. You need to bring food, clothes, sleeping bag, some type of water purifying system or tablets, your hunting tag, and a camera to capture one of the best elk hunting experiences Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters has to offer.

This Drop Camp Elk Hunt is $2500 per hunter for 3 or more hunters or $3000 per hunter for 2 hunters.

Camp 2

Located on approximately 1000 acres of deeded private property, camp 2 has a fully furnished cabin. The cabin contains eight beds, a big dining room table, outdoor hot shower, and is heated with propane. The kitchen has a stove/oven, refrigerator, and all the cooking utensils and supplies needed for your stay. There is a shower with hot water outside of the cabin. The toilet is an outhouse located approximately 30 yards behind the cabin. Electricity is provided by a generator, which you will have to provide. Other supplies you will need is bedding (sleeping bag and pillow), toiletries, food, paper towels, and toilet paper. There is a barbecue at the cabin. Bring your own ATV.

On this semi guided hunt we will give you a map of the properties show you the boundaries and the good hunting locations, we will not go out in the field with you. Hunting will be done on foot, you will be able to park your vehicle or ATV in designated parking areas and hunt from there. You are able to retrieve your down to game with your ATV on the private land but that is the only time you can drive your ATV around the ranch. You will have to follow game retrieval rules on public land.

The weather is normally in the mid 60s during the day in the mid 30s at night. However you can check the weather forecast for Cahone Colorado, that is the closest most accurate weather forecast for the area. Temperatures are usually 5 to 10° cooler than Cahone at the camp.

We ask that you use fixed blade broadheads, expandable broadheads are not restricted but do not seem to preform as well on Elk.

Yes you need to carry your hunting license and hunter safety card with you at all times.

Archery – You will be hunting unit 711, you will need to apply through the draw for an archery bull elk tag.
Rifle – For 2nd or 3rd Rifle season the Statewide over the counter bull Elk tag.

There is no guarantees in hunting, so we do not guarantee that you will harvest an animal. We do our best to give you an opportunity and put you in places where animals are commonly seen or have been harvested in years prior. There have been many times when hunters have gone home without harvesting an animals and a few that have gone home without even seeing an animal.

Camp 3

This is a Semi-Guided public land camp. Hunting will be done in the San Juan National Forest, as well as the adjoining pieces of BLM land. The terrain in this area is aspen covered mountainsides, oak brush hills, deep rugged canyons, all the way down to the pinion and juniper flats. There is a guide that stays in a camp trailer outside your camp. We will point you in the right direction and make sure you are hunting in a spot that will give you a best chance at filling your tag. You drive your ATV or truck and hunt on your own. This is a 7 day hunt.

Accommodations: At this camp hunters will stay in a MGPTS 18’x36’ tent equipped with a fully furnished kitchen, lanterns, beds, as well as a wood stove in case it gets cold out.

You will need your personal items, hunting gear, a sleeping bag, and food for the week. Bring your ATV and a couple stands and ground blinds as well.

You will have to follow game retrieval rules on public land.

Yes, you can purchase a Colorado registration for your ATV/4 wheeler for $25 for Colorado Parks and wildlife.

Electricity is provided. Other supplies you will need is bedding (sleeping bag and pillow), toiletries, food, paper towels, and toilet paper. There is a propane barbecue there.
