Drop Camp Hunts provided by Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters are Do It Yourself Seven day elk hunting trips. You will ride deep into the San Juan Nation Forest on our horses, and dropped off at a wall tent already set up. We provide you with an oversized cot, sleeping pad, cooking utensils, cook stove, propane heater, and a wood stove. You need to bring food, clothes, sleeping bag, some type of water purifying system or tablets, your hunting tag, and a camera to capture one of the best elk hunting experiences Colorado Elk Camp Outfitters has to offer.

Camp 2

Located on approximately 1000 acres of deeded private property, camp 2 has a fully furnished cabin. The cabin contains eight beds, a big dining room table, outdoor hot shower, and is heated with propane. The kitchen has a stove/oven, refrigerator, and all the cooking utensils and supplies needed for your stay. There is a shower with hot water outside of the cabin. The toilet is an outhouse located approximately 30 yards behind the cabin. Electricity is provided by a generator, which you will have to provide. Other supplies you will need is bedding (sleeping bag and pillow), toiletries, food, paper towels, and toilet paper. There is a barbecue at the cabin. Bring your own ATV.

On this semi guided hunt we will give you a map of the properties show you the boundaries and the good hunting locations, we will not go out in the field with you. Hunting will be done on foot, you will be able to park your vehicle or ATV in designated parking areas and hunt from there. You are able to retrieve your down to game with your ATV on the private land but that is the only time you can drive your ATV around the ranch. You will have to follow game retrieval rules on public land.

Rifle – For 2nd or 3rd Rifle season the Statewide over the counter bull Elk tag.

Camp 3

This is a Semi-Guided public land camp. Hunting will be done in the San Juan National Forest, as well as the adjoining pieces of BLM land. The terrain in this area is aspen covered mountainsides, oak brush hills, deep rugged canyons, all the way down to the pinion and juniper flats. There is a guide that stays in a camp trailer outside your camp. We will point you in the right direction and make sure you are hunting in a spot that will give you a best chance at filling your tag. You drive your ATV or truck and hunt on your own. This is a 7 day hunt.

Accommodations: At this camp hunters will stay in a MGPTS 18’x36’ tent equipped with a fully furnished kitchen, lanterns, beds, as well as a wood stove in case it gets cold out.

You will need your personal items, hunting gear, a sleeping bag, and food for the week. Bring your ATV and a couple stands and ground blinds as well.

You will have to follow game retrieval rules on public land.

Electricity is provided. Other supplies you will need is bedding (sleeping bag and pillow), toiletries, food, paper towels, and toilet paper. There is a propane barbecue there.

Horseback Drop Camp

Located in the San Juan National Forest along the West Fork of the Dolores river. This hunt you will pack in on horses/mules deep into the National Forest. This part of the forest is a non motorized travel area so the only way to access it is on foot or horseback. When packing your equipment and gear you will need to limit each person to 80 pounds each. The camp consists of one or two 14ft by 16ft wall tents equipped with cots and cot pads, propane stove, propane heater, lanterns, and all of the cook utensils. Each camp is located next to or near a creek to provide water for you. You will need to bring your own water purifying system to be able to drink the creek water. You will also need to bring your own food, toiletries, toilet paper, paper towels, sleeping bag/pillow and your hunting equipment. For the archery hunters we provide you with a target.

On this do it yourself hunt we will point you in the right direction of wallows and areas that have been good hunting in the previous years. We will not go out in the field and hunt with you. When you harvest an animal, you need to get the animal back to the camp or to a trail where we can get the mules/horses to for the pack out. We will check on you every other day and pack your downed game out to the processor of your choice. You will be hunting national Forest, so the possibility of you seeing other hunters is likely. Please make sure you keep the camp clean to keep the Bears and other animals away from your food and equipment.
